Data Science, Digital and IT Graduate Apprenticeship Evening
August 8 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Graduate Apprenticeships are a ground-breaking initiative, offering fully funded degrees, providing employees with the skills they need.
About this Event
Since 1821, Heriot-Watt University have been offering degrees which are highly regarded for their professional and industrial relevance. We are a leader in work-based learning and skills development, delivering employment related education at a range of levels. Our vision is to grow the Graduate Apprentice programme year on year to meet the demands of the organisations we work in partnership with.
“Graduate Apprenticeships”, introduced by Skills Development Scotland in 2017, are changing the way organisations can recruit and re-train employees, benefiting and strengthening the Scottish workforce in key areas. Graduate Apprenticeships are now available in 12 subject areas allowing participants to study to honours level whilst remaining in full-time employment.
This was recognised in March 2019, when the University was confirmed as one of the largest providers of Graduate Apprenticeship places anywhere in Scotland, with a total of 205 fully funded places awarded to Heriot-Watt by Skills Development Scotland, to help meet the needs of local and national employers.
The innovative approach to delivery developed at Heriot-Watt University, enables employers to upskill their workforce in order to meet the growing demands of the modern business environment. Employees remain in paid employment and “earn as they learn” their new work-based qualifications. Businesses who have signed-up to the Graduate Apprenticeship programme are already witnessing the benefits in their workplace, with closer partnership working between employers, employees and Heriot-Watt University across a range of areas including IT Management for Business, Software Development and Data Science.
These Graduate Apprenticeship programmes are structured in such a way as to ensure that academic skills either build upon existing knowledge of procedures or (in the case of a newly appointed employee) are developed in parallel with them. This provides a streamlined approach which can be used to upskill existing employees or produce truly work-ready graduates for employment earlier than their contemporaries undertaking a full-time study route.
