Programme Administrator – The Data for Children Collaborative with UNICEF

The Data for Children Collaborative with UNICEF is a partnership between UNICEF, The Scottish Government and the University of Edinburgh, funded until August 2022. The Collaborative seeks to improve outcomes for children locally, nationally and globally, drawing on the strengths of all partners to bring insight and solve problems using data and data science. The Collaborative is hosted by The Data Lab – an Innovation Centre funded by the Scottish Government and hosted by the University of Edinburgh. The Data Lab’s core mission is to generate significant economic, social and scientific value from big data.

The post is for the equivalent 35 hours per week and is a 2 year fixed term position.

The Data Lab allows flexible working and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and ages. As a member of the Collaborative you will play a key role in providing administrative support, primarily through working closely support to the Delivery Director, and supporting the progress of suite of projects being delivered by the Collaborative.

In this role, you will provide support across a portfolio of projects, following best practice, documenting, reporting, and planning. This will involve liaising and assisting project stakeholders to deliver to their committed timelines, supporting communications and developing operational mechanisms, such as policy guidance.

You will be qualified at least to N/SVQ3, ONC level or equivalent or have equivalent relevant experience of supporting the delivery of a product or service. You should have good communication, interpersonal and organisational skills. As well as a good working knowledge of PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Email.

Closing date is 5pm, Wednesday 18th September 2019. We anticipate interviews to be held week commencing 23rd September 2019.

Appointment of Board Members to the Skills Advisory Board of The Data Lab Innovation Centre

The Data Lab is one of eight Innovation Centres in Scotland, recently re-funded with an £13.5M grant from the Scottish Funding Council, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Scottish Government to generate significant economic, social and scientific value from data. Hosted by The University of Edinburgh, The Data Lab enables industry, public sector and world-class university researchers to innovate and develop new data science and artificial intelligence capabilities in a collaborative environment.

The Data Lab has been operational for over 4 years and has a wide range of activities and projects underway across our three core areas: Support to Innovate, Skills & Talent and Community & Events.

We are looking to reconstitute our Skills Advisory Board and will be recruiting new Board members for all positions excluding the Chair and The Data Lab representatives. We anticipate ensuring we have a breadth of experience as well as diversity of thought, background, industry and geography across our appointed board members.

CodeClan seeking experienced data scientists/data analysts to be Data Instructors

CodeClan, Scotland’s National Digital Skills Academy, is launching their new immersive, intensive 14-wk Data Analysis Course in July. The course is aimed at giving people from non-tech backgrounds the opportunity to transition into becoming an entry-level data analysts, and is modelled on our successful 16-wk Professional Software Development course.

We are looking for experienced data scientists or data analysts to join our team of instructors at both our Edinburgh and Glasgow campuses. If you are looking for a change of pace, are interested in teaching and are familiar with R, Python and SQL with experience of delivering both visualisation and machine learning projects (ideally in a business context), come talk to us. We have full-time, part-time and short-term roles available. You don’t need to have teaching experience; a passion for data, the ability to explain complex concepts in a simple way and the desire to make a real difference to the skills of the future are a great platform to start from.
